I am offering a complete 6 week beginners' course for those totally new to yoga as well as for students with experience who wish to deepen their foundations of a yoga practice (or simply brush up their skills in a slower-paced setting). Over the six weeks we will break down the fundamentals of a well-rounded yoga practice: asanas (physical postures) and body alignment, movement and transitions, pranayama (breathing techniques) and basic meditation. Build strength, flexibility, balance and mental focus whilst practicing in a relaxed and friendly group setting. Upon completion of the course students will have the experience, confidence and knowledge to attend any open or all levels yoga class.
Course structure: Back to Basics Yoga is taught in a six week sequence. Each class will include a complete basic yoga practice with emphasis on the following:
Discover your inner warrior – sun salutations and standing postures
Find the centre and connect to the core – twisting and balancing
Surrender to gravity – forward bending and seated postures
Bend over backwards – heart-openers and back bending
Turn your world upside down – introduction to inversions
Blissful breath and still life – a typical class with pranayama (breathing) and meditation techniques
